The Maltese government has announced a number of employment related measures and grants in response to COVID-19.
Applications are now available online for:
1. Parent Benefit: A parent who is employed in the private sector, with children under the age of 16 years, who cannot go to work after the 8th March 2020 in order to take care of their children and cannot telework, are eligible for this benefit. The benefit is of €166.15 per week if the parent works full-time and €103.85 if the parent works part-time. 2. Person with Disability Benefit: A person with disability employed in the private sector who cannot attend for work after the 8th March 2020 due to COVID-19 and this on medical advice, is entitled to this benefit. The benefit is of €166.15 per week for full-timers and €103.85 per week for part-timers. 3. Additional Unemployment Benefit: Persons who became unemployed due to the impact of COVID-19 after the 8th March 2020 are entitled to apply for this benefit. Combined with the contributory unemployment benefit, the unemployed person can receive €166.15 per week if they were working full-time and €103.85 per week if they were working part-time. There is no need to apply for this benefit after registering for work with Jobsplus.
Quarantine Leave: Employers who have or had an employee on mandatory quarantine leave (on order from the Superintendent of Public Health) can apply to receive a payment of €350. This is also applicable in case of staff who had to quarantine themselves because of possible contact with others who were at risk of infection (ex. those working in the same workplace or residing in the same house).
