Return to Malta by Sunday, 12th April, 2020

On Tuesday, 7th April, 2020 the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs issued a statement urging Maltese nationals who are still residing abroad to make their way back to Malta by no later than Sunday, 12th April, 2020.

With the increasing spread of the COVID-19 virus, coupled with the numerous lockdowns of airports abroad, the Maltese government has stated that Maltese nationals should return back to Malta via Frankfurt Main or via London Heathrow.

Those who choose to return are to send their flight itinerary, together with a copy of their passport biometric page, to sitcen.mfea@gov.mt for reservation on a repatriation flight returning from the above-mentioned airports.

Beyond the 12th of April, those who choose to remain abroad, do so at their own risk and the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs will not be able to guarantee repatriation flights after this date.

The above also applies to third-country nationals who hold a valid Maltese residence permit. Together with the flight itinerary, a copy of their passport and Maltese residence permit is to be attached.

Any individual who is unable to travel due to imposed lockdowns, but satisfies the above requirements, is to contact the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs on the same email address. Those who have already registered themselves with the ministry are encouraged to contact the ministry on the same email with an update on their current status.
